Chimney Repairs

Chimney problems we repair

Damp around the chimney breast

Stains on walls or ceilings near the chimney often come from failed flashing or porous brickwork.

Crumbling mortar

Eroded joints let water into the stack and weaken it over time.

Cracked flaunching

The mortar cap around the pots cracks with age, letting water in at the top.

Good questions

Frequently asked questions

Why is my chimney leaking?

The usual culprits are worn flashing where the stack meets the roof, porous or cracked brickwork, failed flaunching or an uncapped flue.

How often does a chimney need repointing?

Good pointing lasts many years, but exposed chimneys weather faster. If the mortar is recessed or crumbling, it’s due.

Can you cap a chimney I no longer use?

Yes. A disused flue can be capped while still allowing some ventilation to prevent condensation inside.

Do you need scaffolding for chimney repairs?

Most chimney work needs scaffolding or a chimney access system for safety. It’s included in your quote.

Can you remove a chimney stack?

Removal can be possible, but it may need structural checks and permissions. Tell us about it and we’ll discuss what’s involved.
